If a water bill or meter reading is suspected of being abnormal you may request that the meter be tested. If a material fault is found, the meter may be replaced at a cost of $200 to the owner and the bill for the period is estimated based on a predetermined standard. If the meter is found to be accurate then it may not be replaced and the bill is deemed valid.
The test methods we use to determine meter accuracy are:
- Fill a 5 gallon container and ensure the meter reading is consistent, or
- Remove the meter and bench test it alongside a calibrated meter for more accurate readings.
There are normally reasons for abnormally high readings that can be explored before the meter is considered as the problem such as:
- An undetected leak
- Filling of the swimming pool
- Irrigation left running
- Toilet cistern not operating properly
The Association is not responsible for detecting plumbing problems on the owner's side of the meter installation and if a leak is suspected, owners should contact their plumber.
Charges are subject to VAT at the prevailing rate.
